Dr. Paul Caragine's Biography
Childhood and Career in New Jersey
Dr. Paul Caragine MD is a 64-year old doctor who was raised and currently lives in Boonton, New Jersey. He graduated with honors from Boonton High School in 1963 where he had an outstanding record of leadership including Editor of the Newspaper, Football Announcer, Member of the Band and Orchestra, President of the Math and Science Clubs, National Honor Society, and many other activities.
Honors, Boards, and Scholarship (Rutgers and MIT)
He was a National Merit Letter of Commendation winner, had very high College Board scores, won the 1963 New Jersey Golf Association Caddy Scholarship (a full tuition 4-year scholarship to Rutgers University), and won a 4-year full tuition-room-board-fees scholarship to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He went to MIT, graduating in 1967 with very high marks (MIT does NOT have a Dean’s List) and a BS degree in Chemical Engineering with minors in Biology and Economics. He had Nobel Laureates as teachers in Biology and Economics.
Becoming an MD
He attended the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) graduating with the MD degree in 1971 while earning honors in Surgery, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and MicroBiology. He then remained at that institution and its Affiliated Hospitals as Straight Surgical Intern, then Orthopedic Resident for 3 years, and finally as Senior Chief Orthopedic Resident over 31 others, finishing in 1976. He received his Board Certification as a specialist in Orthopedic Surgery (FAAOS) on his first attempt in 1977, Also became Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) in 1979, an honorary Society of Surgeons based upon Integrity.
Going into Practice, and staying there for 25 years
Began a large Orthopedic practice first in his hometown of Boonton and later in Denville and Dover, NJ for 25 years. Continued as Instructor of surgery at NJ Medical School for 4 years teaching Orthopedic surgery to students, interns, and residents. Served as Boonton Town Doctor (1974-1980), Boonton Public Schools Doctor, and as Team Doctor for Boonton HS Football Team (1974-1998), which he had been on himself (1960). Had hospital privileges at 4 area hospitals and served as Chief of Surgery for 5 years at one (Riverside Hospital, Boonton) and Chief of Orthopedic Surgery for 7 years at another (St. Clare’s Hospital, Denville). Gave numerous medical talks to civic groups in Boonton/Denville area. Active and an officer in MIT Alumni Club of Northern NJ, and also in both the NJ and the Morris County Orthopedic Society(ies).
Retiring to Work (?)
Retired from active practice in 2000 to spend time working on developing vitamin products initially to combat Osteoporosis and Arthritis, later incorporated in 2007 as Crossroads Nutrition, LLC.
Using MIT Education to improve our Environment
Dr. Caragine also invented a device to generate electricity from the undertows at the ocean shores. Incorporated in 2008 as Undertow Electric Energy LLC (US Patent granted in 2009 – US Serial No.: 11/772,933).
