Dr. Paul's Story

The founder, Dr. Paul Caragine MD, is a retired Orthopedic Surgeon who several years ago noted that even in the affluent suburbs of New Jersey, nearly 2/3s of the senior citizen females (over age 60) were ravaged by Osteoporosis and other chronic conditions like Diabetes, Arthritis, Vision conditions, Hypertension, Auto-Immune diseases, chronic Gum disease (Gingivitis), and others. Further, nearly half of men and women over 60 eat sub-optimal diets and gradually become sub-nourished. Essential and other supportive nutrient deficiencies develop because for whatever reasons, these people don’t take the nutrients discovered to supplement and support the medications their doctor’s prescribe.

The contributing causes to these problems of under-nutrition in Seniors were found to be:
1) Many Seniors are widows or widowers who have become lonely, depressed, and live alone. These things lead to unhealthy eating habits such as eating too many fast foods, too many leftovers, not enough fruit & vegetables, not enough healthy meal variety, and just not eating enough or sometimes skipping meals altogether
2) Many of these same Seniors have Physical and Mental problems that make consuming and utilizing Vitamin pills and other medications difficult:
a) The pills themselves are often problems in that they are sometimes too small to handle or difficult to see, or sometimes too large so that they can’t be swallowed.
b) Many contain ingredients that are difficult for the body to absorb.
c) Many contain adhesive binders that can prevent the pill from breaking down and being absorbed. The pill then passes from the body to be called by nurses “Bed Pan Bullets”. This is the single biggest problems in vitamin absorption. Pharmaceutical companies are not required to disclose the nature of their nutritional product binders. Dr. Whitaker and other experts advise that all medications and nutritional products be taken as liquids, as GelCaps, or as powders (flavored alone or in capsules). Powders can also be added to foods and drinks to create delicious and nutritious fare.
d) Failing Eyesight makes it difficult to see and handle small pills
e) Many have Difficulty Swallowing Pills – an estimated 20% of those over age 65
f) Many have Arthritic and Weakened Hands and Fingers that make opening containers and manipulating small pills very difficult
g) Many have Tremulous Hands from Vascular Diseases and/or Parkinson Disease
h) Many have Failing Memory for what they have already taken that day

i) Many have a Lack of Information and Conflicting Information about which products they should take to get everything they really need, and which nutrients they don’t really need. And…
j) Many have Chronic Indigestion and Constipation problems that interfere with the absorption of nutrients; many of these very problems are from nutrient deficiencies in the first place.

These problems contribute to nutritional deficiencies which later can produce fractures and other chronic medical problems. The founder thought of another thing. He was an Orthopedic Surgeon who every day cared for new patients with hip and spinal fractures caused by Osteoporosis. Many fractures of the wrist, ankle, and shoulder likewise were also caused by osteoporosis. Though much of his practice consisted of taking care of these patients, he eventually decided he would try to do something to decrease them in the first place - something like developing a line of specific all-in-one supplements to combat osteoporosis and other chronic disorders of aging. This lead to an appreciation of all the chronic medical problems of seniors, and the beginning of what became CROSSROADS NUTRITION.

CROSSROADS NUTRITION was founded to deal with the particular problems of general nutrition (with both powders and oils) and also with the nutritional needs of chronic disorders like osteoporosis, the various forms of arthritis, cardiovascular disease, types I and II Diabetes, frequent colds & flu, immune deficiencies, vision problems.

The founder developed a series of specific, economical, and efficient, all-in-one capsular natural remedies to address these problems, a line of premium but still economical formulas in capsules and gel-caps easy to swallow that contained Multi-Vitamins – Minerals - Herbals – & other Beneficial Biological Nutrients.

The all-in-one nutritional for otherwise healthy people will soon (by November 2008) be available as MY WAY powder and includes as many of the helpful known alternative medicine ingredients as could reasonably be included. The company would eventually supply a lower dose version for children (a TROOPER line). By November 2008, the company’s line of disease-specific capsules will also have grown to 11 specific formulas to treat problems of:
